Snapshot: The Polish Election Update

voting, ballot, vote

The first phase of the Polish presidential election due to begin May 10th was postponed. Despite the Covid-19 outbreak, the government has agreed to go ahead with the election using a postal vote as means of enforcing the social distancing measures.

Despite the lack of public support for the election to take place, the government is very eager to reschedule as soon as possible! A strong preference for holding the election on June the 28th has been displayed, however, there is the legal matter of a 55 days’ notice that needs to be provided for voters and candidates prior to the election.

Solution? Change the law so a shorter notice is required.

So, we ask ourselves, why is the government in a rush to have the election? Especially since an extension of their time in power is an option due to the coronavirus outbreak.
