Snapshot Update: An obstacle to Google’s $1.2bn acquisition of Fitbit

EU Regulators have demanded that Google restrain from using Fitbit’s health data to improve its search engine, in return for EU approval of the deal. Previously, Google pledged not to utilise the data to boost advertising, but this promise was not enough to satisfy EU regulators. However, after a landmark case against Apple, where the Commission argued they had to pay €14.3bn in taxes to Ireland but lost, there is a risk of the deal being cleared despite Google’s non-compliance with EU demands.
