Uber Boat has recently announced their formal partnership with Thames Clippers, offering an alternative method of transport to tourists and commuters in London by ferry. Although the commuter ferries will be branded with the Uber logo, operations will remain under the control of Thames Clippers. Commenting on the partnership, Sean Collins, CEO of Thames Clippers, highlighted the shared values between the two transport providers of safety, comfort and reliability.
Through the new venture, Uber customers will be able to book tickets via the Uber app and produce a QR code when boarding. However, the service is not on-demand, but on a scheduled timetable. This marks a significant change from the current popular ride-hailing service, improving ease and accessibility. This partnership further reflects the acknowledgment that companies must do further to reduce their environmental impact and provide alternative services which are more sustainable.
