NASA’S analysis saw a drastic reduction in nitrogen dioxide as a result of burning less fossil fuels due to a strict lockdown of the epicentre of the pandemic. China is known to be the world’s biggest emitter of greenhouse gasses, causing China’s use of fossil fuels to be central in tracking climate change.

With such reduction in such a small period of time, it’s unquestionable what the effect will be in the long term. This leaves the question whether there are restrictions which would be put into place by Chinese authorities which would be able to have a longer lasting effect on climate change. Despite the drastic drop in emissions, it is viewed by environmentalists as anything but a ‘blip’ over a long time.
