Jeff Bezos Steps Aside as Amazon Chief

The online retail giant’s boss announced his unexpected departure as he revealed a surge in Amazon sales over the Christmas 2020 quarter. He is to hand over the role to Andy Jassy during Summer 2021, but Bezos is not really going anywhere, staying on in the company as executive chair. Bezos has pledged to focus on “new products and early initiatives” like his space exploration company Blue Origin, fighting climate change and overseeing The Washington Post, the newspaper he owns moving forward. He remains Amazon’s biggest shareholder and looks likely to continue to have major influence over the company’s direction.
