Papers published at the end of 2020 that the Queen will be stepping down. According to a Royal Biographer, the Queen will be stepping down once she has turned 95. She is due to celebrate her 95th birthday in April this year.
There have been stories about this before. For example in 2019 there was an article published in USA Today, which says she will not be abdicating when she turns 95. This argument seems to be strengthened as there are now articles saying we will be getting an extra bank holiday as part of the celebrations for her Platinum Jubilee. The celebrations are scheduled for June 2022 which would mean she would not be abdicating next year when she turns 95.
It is unclear whether the Queen will step down and let Charles succeed her but the rumours continue to circulate – steadily increasing in volume as she reaches new milestones.
