Earlier this year in April, the French senate decided to vote to ban the hijab for under 18’s in public spaces. As from July, the EU court has ruled that the hijab can be banned at workplaces around Europe.
The claim and justification for the ban is that an employee needs to present a neutral image towards customers to prevent social disputes. But this really appears as a cover up for Islamophobic beliefs.
Are we not taught to respect each other no matter how we look and but views aside, so why is something that displays faith so problematic? As people want to believe there is a growing progression within our society, it can be debatable with issues like these arising.
